Willoughby Rotary Foundation announces “Dreams Come True” Raffle Winners

Eastlake Families choose a $40,000 Cash Prize instead of sharing a Red Corvette

Willoughby, OH - The Willoughby Rotary Foundation has announced the winners of their initial “Dreams Come True” Raffle, conducted as part of the Willoughby Rotary Foundation's 22nd Annual Rotary Ball on October 13, 2007 at the Kirtland Country Club.

Raffle tickets were sold by Willoughby Rotarians and on the Rotary website. Tickets were sold to people in 17 states, and in countries as far away as Kuwait, to a member of the U. S. military. Winning tickets were drawn by Michael J. Johns, of the Rotary International Board of Directors.

The winning ticket belonged to Mary Palumbo, her brother Rick Latkovich, and his wife Maureen, all of Eastlake, Ohio. They decided to take the cash prize of $40,000 instead of the 2007 Red Corvette, provided at a special discounted cost from Pat O’Brien Chevrolet in Willoughby Hills. The grand prize ticket was purchased through the Willoughby Rotary website.

The second place winning ticket for a $1,000 cash prize was awarded to Dan Hart of Willoughby, Ohio. The second place ticket was sold by Rotarian and Willoughby Police Chief Conrad Straube. The third place $500 cash prize was awarded to Spiros Gonakis of Euclid, Ohio. The third place ticket was sold by Rotarian and Willoughby Municipal Judge Larry Allen.

"We are extremely pleased with the success of our initial raffle and the tremendous effort by our Rotarians, said Michelle Hauser, chair of the Charity Ball committee, and Willoughby Rotary President-Elect. “We are now determining what changes will be made to the Raffle and Ball for 2008.

As always, all proceeds from the 2007 raffle will benefit a variety of local charities, scholarships and Rotary humanitarian programs that demonstrate a meaningful financial need by written request. The Willoughby Foundation determines recipients and distributes all funds raised each year at an annual luncheon early in 2008.
